Choosing a Contest
So you've decided to enter a contest, but the question is: Which one?
Often there are lots and lots of contests going on at once at Writing.Com and while that can make a great diversity of choices, it can be tough to pick one. Here are some tips:
Past Experience. You can choose to enter a contest/activity based on the person hosting it. If you've had a good past experience with that member, it can be a good indication of another well-run contest. Add someone to your favorites by clicking on the plus-sign (+) next to their name. (Click again to become a "Fan" of that member.)
"Writing Contests @ Writing.Com" and "Activities @ Writing.Com" are great places to find currently promoted contests & activities.
Searching. If you're looking for a particular type of contest or activity, you can try searching by the "Contest" and "Activity" genres, search by type (like forum, group, In & Out, etc.) and try sorting by "Newly Created" to see the newest first!
This Newsletter. The Contests & Activities Newsletter features current contests & activities in the Editor's Picks below! Check them out!
Public Review Page. Looking at current reviews can be a good place to find current contests because members will sometimes advertise for their current contest in their review signature, or they review entries in their contests.
New or old. The question can often be, do you already have something written? Some contests will accept work not specifically written for that contest (check the rules!). Are you interested in writing something brand new? Or do you have something already written that you're looking for a contest to enter? That can change your searching strategy, too.
Favorites. One of the best ways to keep an eye on a contest is to add it to your favorites. Again, click on the plus sign (+) in the upper right corner of the item. That way you will be notified when it is updated and you can keep it in mind for when you're ready to enter!
There are lots of ways to find contests & activities. Give them a try and enter today!

My last newsletter, ("Contests & Activities Newsletter (April 12, 2017)" ), discussed Hard Work.
After a much too long absence the Sci-Fi Writers Guild is back and has a new Contest: The Science Fiction Short Story Contest!!! We would very much appreciate it if you included us in the next issue.
Thanks!
