Sam Adams was a watcher
In a secret government agency
That has no name
His mission to watch for aliens
Invaders from the skies
They were sure would happen
As the world
emerged from the dark forest

The Dark forest is a science fiction essay that argues that the galaxy is filled with alien civilizations and that the aliens may not be friendly, and may be out to destroy new civilizations that they encounter. The world is in a dark forest filled with potential enemies and we should be afraid that we might be discovered and find ourselves like the native Americans when the aliens invade taking away our world for their own. In this poem, Sam Adams is a watcher looking for signs of the coming alien invasion.
