There is a certain eloquence

to the sounds of autumn falling:

migratory calls from flights of geese

or crunch of tree-shed underfoot.

Dregs of stagnant, sultry summer air

swept away by barren branches.

The year yawns down,

curled under the comforter of snow-sleep,

quiet descends. Rocks shrouded, entombed

in white, unmarked graves. Grey boughs,

scratching against the winter sky,

mark in silent tribute

the passing of one to the next.

For a brief moment, time

pauses in the Janus door.
