Thankful Thursday: God Smiles
Thursday, October 13, 2016
Author's Note: I wrote this poem several years ago. I recently found it when I was cleaning out a drawer (which is why writers should clean out their desk drawers every few years). The original title was God Smiled and the poem was all in past tense. I decided to change the poem to present tense and, therefore, changed the names to God Smiles.
God smiles
And the primordial atom explodes
Generating
in the first seconds of time
Building blocks of matter
God smiles
And a supergiant novas
Sending shock waves
Through the cold hydrogen of interstellar space
Creating
Stellar nurseries
In the interstellar medium
God smiles
And a solar nebula condenses
Forming
Star and planets out of gas and dust
God smiles
And in the organic soup
Of a primeval ocean
Life evolves
God smiles
And from the beginning that has no beginning
Energy becomes matter
God smiles
And to the end that will have no end
Matter becomes energy
