Lift Off
To help another soul be great
increases Joy of heart
Especially when we must wait
to see the growth to start.

Yet, when the roles reverse we're sad
for learner is in stronger place,
While part of us is truly glad,
we sense a change from larger grace.

Such is the daily parent's life
that starts so very strong.
The child relies, there's diff'rent strife
and Joy is wondrous song!

But as she grows I'm needed less.
She stands on her two feet.
There's nothing wrong. To watch we bless.
We help her goals complete.

To parent well our job retires,
retool to newer days.
We're joyful when our child aspires
and confidence displays.

But Truth be known a tear falls soft
upon the aging heart.
The memories we bear aloft
recoil from thought, "Depart?"

"She's only fourteen!" This I know,
but heart must LONG prepare,
That when it's time to see her go,
I'll do more than to stare.

My novel write, viola play,
a horse I'd learn to ride!
"I love you, Dear! But I can't stay!
So much must be applied!"
