Thank you, Joy, I’m sure though that there were those generations before me and you that suffered real hardship. Those pioneer women really knew what hardship was didn’t they?
Sometimes, if it doesn’t kill you, hardship builds character and resilience. Resilience is something many of the younger generations don’t seem to possess. Resilience needs to be taught in school because of the bullying the young ones have to deal with. I’m not sure I could have handled that particular hardship when I was so young.

You did face hard times but you handled those wonderfully. Facing hardships and all other facts head on helps a lot. You are brave.

Yes, Lyn I used to move my furniture around so much no one knew where anything was.😂
I just can’t do it anymore though, physically. So I think if my husband or myself go blind we would be able to navigate without bumping into things.😂

Sometimes looking at the situation from a different perspective. I do that sometimes when I move things around in my home by creating a themed look. It helps me feel like I'm in a different place than I am. Simple adjustments do make a difference.

Haha, well the reason we moved the sleeping arrangements is we only have three bedrooms and I wander usually between two of them! That’s because of my recent op and being unsettled and being generally a poor sleeper and my habit of reading in the middle of the night. So it was decided I’d have a room of my own and the visitors could have the master room.
It’s working out reasonably well so far.

And... nosy part of me wants to know why you and your husband gave up your room? Could they not have taken separate rooms instead of splitting you up? You don't have to answer, of course. I would never have kicked my mother out of her room. I just can't imagine, unless there was some medical need or something?

Hi, Lyn thank you for the birthday wishes. No it’s nowhere near as cold in Winter here as in England. Up in the hills where we are we can get the occasional frost but it’s rare. A really cold day is when the temperature doesn’t rise above 13 centigrade.

Happy Early Birthday, Sue. That's really cool you've had the opportunity to enjoy July in two different hemispheres. Is it as cold as a Northern Hemisphere winter? I know winters in Maine below zero Fahrenheit was a norm for the winter. Here in the desert, in the teens happens just not for very long.

Hurdles

DAY 3141--July 1, 2024
Prompt:
“Mountains look big from the ground, but from eagle’s eyes, they’re stepping stones.”
What is your take on this quote, and on the average, how do you notice and assess hardships?

I suppose my way of looking at hardships is to face them head on and just hope things will get better.
When we, my husband, three year old and myself arrived in Australia we knew no one. All our furniture and belongings were stuck on Liverpool docks for six months in the docker’s strike. We bought a house but had nothing to put in it while we waited for our stuff to arrive. People we met donated some essentials which was really fortunate as we had no money to buy much. I was six months pregnant by the time we eventually furnished the house.
That time was hard.
After the twins were born our washing machine broke and so were we. I washed towelling diapers in the bath, treading them as if I was treading grapes to make wine.😂

So hardships now don’t worry me, nothing could have been as hard as those years with no family to help me with the children. I hear people saying “Woe is me,” over the smallest hurdle and just tell them they’re young, strong and healthy and that’s all that matters.

Time for a change

Blog City Prompt: Have fun with these words in your entry: settle, continental, try, slam, level, nest, and day.

I feel as if I’m in need of a continental holiday. You know how it is when life becomes tedious, and you just can’t settle into your life as it is, and you are in desperate need of a change of scenery or just something which will put some sparkle back into your life?
Try as I might to get my life back onto some level pegging, something happens and slams me back to earth. Perhaps instead of dreaming of travel I should settle back into my nest, rearrange a few feathers or straw and just call it a day.
