Thanks for responding. It looked like I was about to have conversation with myself until you stopped by. I agree with many of the things you say, more or less, but with a subtle difference.

Honoring your parents is generally a good thing to do. but obviously not in the case you cited or any of the other horrific cases of child abuse. That's why I added in my additional 10, thou shalt provide for thy children. By that I intend to exclude child abuse.

Yeah, I agree about the terrible irony of killing in the name of your concept of God. That's why I added the one about not judging people by the name or number of their gods. It's intended to mean, don't kill for Me.

You could argue that wearing a cross is an idol or graven image, but I think that's a rather extreme position. Jews and Muslims don't allow visual representations of God because of those concerns and might consider statues of Jesus or saints a violation of the commandment, but I wouldn't argue with Christians about that either. I'm comfortable with multiple interpretations as long as they don't hurt anybody.

More of a false idol than crosses or statues in my opinion (and a number of rabbis I've heard sermonizing) is over-valuing in wealth, status, and power. It's this quality which potentially veers us away from a more spiritual, generous, and peaceful path.

Yeah, the Sabbath is Saturday according to Judaism. I don't know why the Christians changed it to Sunday, but it seems a small point to quibble about. Again, who does it hurt if they (or we) are off by a day? Doesn't it matter more what you do with your days than how you calculate them?
