Fail!
I admit it, I'm a NaNoWriMo failure. The last two years I decided to give the contest a try and I got nowhere near a win. BUT, I did start a story that's been knocking around in my head for decades. Hey, don't judge, I held onto the story and have no idea where my car keys are most of the time. Somehow I think I will have all kinds of time in November and then, NOPE! BIG NOPE! My life gets busy with other things and the stories have to go to the back burner. But at least its still a burner, right?
Don't ever feel like you've failed if you've held an activity that didn't get a lot of interest or started stories for a contest that long ago ended. What you did do is write, participated in our community and supported our site. That's important! And next year, the same thing might happen, or you might get an entry in and win some gift points. Have you checked out all the stuff you can purchase in the "The Writing.Com Shop" ? Those points can purchase some pretty nice swag.
At the end of the year when it's time to account for all the things we did or didn't do, writing is always on my list. While I'm not as active in contests and such, I feel like I'm always inspired by my fellow WDC'rs. You are a great group of people that have such fantastic imaginations. I read all kinds of wonderful stories and see all kinds of clever contests and activities. I appreciate all the time and effort that goes into those things.
And while I'm at it, let me post a little plug for a fun December activity which I host: "Secret Santa - Closed" It's a fun way to meet other members and have fun sending little notes and gifts to brighten their day.

WDC November Site Contest
Quote Prompt for November 2023:

A new prompt will be posted every day in the forum at the bottom of this page at approximately 11:00 pm WDC time. (Eastern US time). The prompt will have the date of the next day, the day it is due. After the prompt is posted,you'll have about 24 hours to post your entry.
Each day around 12pm NOON WDC time, one of our dedicated volunteer judges will judge the previous day's entries and post a new writing prompt. Entries for each new prompt must be posted by 11:59am WDC time the next day. Entries that follow ALL of the prompt requirements will be judged according to the creativity in responding to the writing prompt only. This means that grammatical errors WILL NOT be a determining factor in deciding the winner!
One simple rule is to make a thing or an object ALIVE. Give it an emotion, an ability to talk, and a feeling to express what it'd been hiding and wanting to tell us human beings. Its emotion may vary according to how you word your piece. It could be depressed, ecstatic, sad, angry, anxious, or even vengeful. You have the liberty to choose its emotion.
Accepting poetry only.  No line or word count limit. In addition, it can be any form you choose or free form.
The objective is simple: Choose ONE of the images shown and craft a poem or short story (1,000 words maximum) inspired by the image.
Winning submissions will be featured in a brand new, unique trinket collection and receive a 10K awardicon in the winner's color choice OR a community merit badge they do not already have.

Deadline Nov 30 In each round of this contest I'll post a prompt and ask for either fiction or non-fiction. In the non-fiction rounds, the idea is to share your own experiences surrounding this prompt. In the fiction rounds the idea is to incorporate your faith into the story - it may be your lead character's faith, or your characters may find themselves in an environment where your faith is evident, and so on. If you are an atheist, or agnostic, the same goes but then, obviously, from those perspectives. Be creative. Have fun!
Opens on January 1, 2024 and closes on December 29, 2024.
"I Write " in 2024 challenges you to write for any writing contest or activity here on Writing.Com and review the fellow author who posted an entry in this forum right before you at least 24 times in 12 months.
This isn't a contest, but rather, a place to share your poetic expressions!
As you are inspired, add an 8 line, titled poem to this collection.
(The poem's title doesn't count as one of the 8 lines.)

Last month's "Contests & Activities Newsletter (October 25, 2023)" question: How do you manage your writing time during NaNoWriMo and the busy holidays?
Angelica- Happy July 4th!  : I use outline and go with the flow. 2k a day should do the trick.
bryanmchunter: I mostly tend to focus on the holidays first.
TheBusmanPoet  : Just my wife and cats. I'm not usually restricted if I want to write. Plus I always have a pad and pen/pencil with me.
Arsuit : The writing I get paid to do takes priority. Then I spend several hours stressing out about not having enough time - without it ever occurring to me to repurpose stressing-out-time into writing-time.
Jay O'Toole  : Successfully completing NaNoWriMo is usually possible, especially if I write more than the daily quotas early in November. However, if I'm traveling on Thanksgiving and the days through the weekend following it, it's a real challenge to maintain the daily quota with the ability to post it, since we often visit family members, who do not have internet access.
Last year I lit up all the merit badges on the NaNoWriMo website, except for the one for daily quotas. I missed one day by 10 words writing all the way to midnight. That felt bad, and that one wasn't even due to traveling.
I try to be consistent with my writing, but I agree with Bryan, family comes first.
buddhangela  : I write through the holidays because that's what I need to do to stay healthy. The only thing that makes "the season" busy for me is being forced to deal with the crazy people who forget about kindness and courtesy in their rush to acquire STUFF before their friend or neighbor does. I mostly stay home, per my norm. 
Scarypotato is okay : Still trying to figure that out.
deltablue : Given that holidays to me are pretty much all about getting a day off from work and, on Thanksgiving, football. So my writing time doesn't change.
jdennis  : I don't. Time manages me.
