Winning Every Seven Days
This is what happens when you time your presence, participation, and reviews.
Almost every contest and activity offers winners a merit badge or an award. These prizes are usually hard to get and sometimes they go dormant for a long time. Or forever. That makes is seemingly hard to earn a lot of merit badges. Or any at all.
Achievement Merit Badges are for everyone! But what are they?
These are the prizes that anyone can get simply for having an account on Writing.Com. To see all of the possible Achievement Merit badges follow these steps:

There are nine badges that anyone can get by getting started here on Writing.Com. Getting Started Achievement Badges pile up with several "firsts."
Then, there are the four Consistency Achievements. These have the extra benefit that they can be earned an infinite amount of numbers -- as long as any of the things can be achieved seven days in a row. For every seven days of logging on in a row: BOOM merit badge.
Many members have acquired the three for logging on, posting in a forum, and posting on the Newsfeed. I've seen several people joke on the Newsfeed that they will never get the reviewing seven days in a row Achievement Merit Badge.
It's not that hard! Once a day, click on Read & Review in the left side bar. Click through until you find an item that you want to read and comment on. Do that seven days in a row. Cha-Ching! Two badges guaranteed (because this makes you log in seven days in a row automatically).
Finally, there are the Achievement Merit Badges for Years on the site, Reviewing, Forum Posts, Newsfeed Posts, giving Review Rewards, and even for sending Merit Badges!  These last ones can also be earned several times, but they take more effort to get. This should not deter anyone to work toward these also.
How does all of this relate to Contests & Activities? It's literally all about Contests & Activities! Most contests make you write something. You can tell the community about it on the Newsfeed. Most contests are set up in the Forum item type, which means that submitting gets you a Forum Entry.
What about reviews?
The site is brimming with reviewing groups and activities. I haven't seen any rule that would make it so that you can't enter one review per day seven days in a row.

Replies to my last Contests & Activities newsletter "That New Year Smell" that asked Tell me how you plan to finetune your writing in this brand new year.

Which is why 2024 will not be a big writing year for me (aside from blogs/journals). The pull toward photography is getting stronger with each passing year, and I find that resisting the pull is souring my moods. So off to see if photography is in fact my north star.
SMART goals don't work for everything, that is true. They can be helpful in figuring out how far to pursue something.
