Love doesn't mean buying
Valentine’s Day is advertised all over the media. “Buy this for your sweetheart.” “Buy that for your sweetheart.” After all February is the month to promote love. However, does buying show love? Not necessarily, and buying doesn’t “write” about love.
I know a bit about love since my husband and I will celebrate our 50th anniversary February 18th. No, ours wasn’t a fairy tale story, happily ever after, but we’ve been happy more often than not. We’ve always had a peace and a joy with our life together. Yes, we’ve disagreed quite often, but we still loved each other. Our marriage story doesn’t include either of us straying. We’ve always been loyal and true because we truly love each other.
When we planned on marrying, a couple who had already celebrated over sixty years together told us, “When the times come when you don’t think you love the other, act as if you do, think as if you do. In time, the love will show again and no pretending is necessary.” In other words, no matter what the circumstances, we continued to live in love.
Robert became my best friend first. We could and did talk about anything and everything. If we couldn’t share with the other, we didn’t enjoy whatever we participated in or did.

Cleansing doubts from my memory.
A song of love I feel
In the softness of a touch
Reaching into the depths of me,
Leaving a part of him.
Yes, love is more than buying a gift; it's becoming a part of the other person and allowing yourself to be part of him or her.
