IDEAS: HORROR? Or Just HORRIBLE?

Greetings Horrorites!

Recently I saw that Jeff has a new contest going on over at "Sinister Stories Contest [13+]. The prompt, for some unknown reason, spurred my imagination: Your character believes his or her spouse/sibling/coworker/friend is having an affair. But when your character follows and spies on them, the truth is much different and darker than they possibly could have imagined....

I don't know why this tickled my muse, but it did. Now I have an itch I can't scratch until I write something; which is bad, because my itches fester until they become full-blown pustules. Nevertheless, this brought to mind, 'where do good horror ideas come from?' Obviously, mine is coming from this annoying prompt, but everybody is different. So, where do you get your ideas? This is mine, or at least the start of it . . . .

People have secrets. Some are even willing to kill to keep them that way. My sweet Beth's secret was so horrible that it would destroy anyone who discovered it. And I believe now, that the only reason she didn't die when she stumbled upon it, was because she was a woman, and it was a woman her secret desired most of all.

I can remember, suspended here between worlds, the first time I followed her into the mountains. It was late in the day, and the sun, as orange as a dragon's egg cracked on the western peaks and spilled a crimson yolk. Against this fiery backlight, the mountains wore king's gold for a while, then gradually took off their shining crowns and drew royal-blue nightclothes up their slopes.

I followed, my sweet Beth up a twisted path, her dark cloak flapping behind her like an owl that has just settled upon its prey. She moved quickly and with assuredness but stopping every so often to turn and stare down the hill to see if she was being followed.

Did she know I was there? Was she leading me purposefully to my doom?

Not perfect, but a start. The whole thing is to just get started and see where your muse takes you.

Until next time,

billwilcox

Hi Bill! It's amazing how myths and legends get started. People on FB were showing pics of "Krampus" and I had no idea it had to do with Christmas! *Shock* I'm wishing you and your family a very happy, healthy, and prosperous 2014!

Great NL. Bill. *Bigsmile*
One of my little boys used to mix Santa and Satan. *Laugh* That was eons ago.
And no wonder I liked Thor, except I didn't associate him with the chimneys or with being an old man with a beard, but I imagined him more like a strong muscular god hammering the sky to produce lightning and having something to do with oak trees. Live and Learn! *Smile*
