we often look but do we really see
Woman on the Corner

I've seen her on the street
with the cars passing by,
barely standing on her feet
makes me want to cry.

Such a sad vision,
an unfortunate soul
having no decision,
nature took its toll.

Messy hair, dirty face
ripped clothes, lying smile
she looks out of place,
but she's been there awhile.

Begging for money and food
as people shudder and ignore.
They often say she's rude
instead of seeing that she's poor.

Hanging head, shameful heart
bruised life, worried mind
slowly being ripped apart
living her life blind.

I watched her throughout the day
to see what she did.
There she would stay
until she had something for her kid.

I wanted to take her hand
hold her by my side
assuring her I understand,
but I silently cried.

Author's Note: When we look at someone we often are quick to assume or judge but if we take the time to see someone we may understand things better.
