Family rivalry embodying the disintegration of a whole society, Russia, in the 1870s. It is also a story of patricide, into the sordid unfolding of which Dostoyevsky introduces a love-hate struggle with profound psychological and spiritual implications.

Dostoevsky has a way with fascinating relationships between the men and women of his stories. Also, he is a man of faith unafraid to address problems and controversy.

The ending! What was up with that!?!?

Throw it across the room because I didn't like the ending.

Tense, sad, angry but in some parts happy.

Is a genius. His works are filled with so much it's impossible to get it all with one reading.

It's an intense psychological thriller with profound meaning.

Apparently the ending is the way it is because there was a sequel planned but Dostoevsky died before he could start on it so the ending kind of leaves the reader hanging with minimal closure.

If you've read any other of Dostoevsky's works, namely "Crime and Punishment" like me, you'll like this book.
