Like all other Jane Austen novels, this book centers around its heroine, Fanny Price. Fanny is the oldest in a large poor family. Sir Thomas Bertram, her wealthy and respectable uncle, allows Fanny to be raised by the Bertrams in order to help her mother. This book follows her growing up in the Bertram household at Mansfield Park and falling in love.

As with all of Jane Austen's works, her characters are 3-dimensional and unique.

A few parts were more wordy than previous novels.

Delighted. It is perhaps the most difficult of Austen's novels to understand, but it is worth reading for her insight into human nature.

Jane Austen is the second daughter and the seventh of eight children to a respectable clergyman. She lived most of her life in rural England.

It's a Jane Austen novel and anyone who loved her previous novels should read this.

I must admit that upon a first reading of this novel, I felt rather squeamish about the outcome of a certain relationship, but upon reflection and a re-read, I can see that this was indeed the right course. I always re-read Jane Austen novels because I pick up so much more each time around.
