Summary of this Book...
This book is about the life of a British girl called thelma who moves to Canada when she's 6. She tells of her life, complete with her three imaginary friends Ginniger, Janawee and Heroin who are with her throughout her life. She is abused by her father, grows up too fast, suffers from various mental illnesses that plague her life through school and college and lands her in 2 hospitals. Finally you hear of her recovery and how she get's on with her life in the end.
I especially liked...
The pieces where she's conversing with her two friends Villaine and Binbecka. The games they play and their discussions later on in life, when they realize how much they've changed, but also how much they need each other at times. I also liked the description of Oxford University and how there aren't any bridges high enough to jump off and kill yourself on.
I didn't like...
The stereotypical view of straight laced English people. (Because i'm English and we aren't all like that! lol)
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
Read it again. There's so much going on in this book that on first read you don't always pick up on all of them.
This Book made me feel...
The book made me feel insecure about my past and future. It raises a lot of questions for the reader to think about, but because it's both dark and funny, it haunts you...
The author of this Book...
Is awesome! She approches difficult subjects/genres well and enlightens the author to the world of voices inside the head, eating diorders, madness, family life and much more.
I recommend this Book because...
Because it's really good. I know that sounds silly, but it really is. Growing up is hard at the best of times, but Camilla Gibb shows us a new perspective of what girls can go through and how the character Thelma deals with it.
Further Comments...
If you've ever wondered about going crazy or flirted with imaginary friends, then you should read this book!
