Summary of this Book...
Jeffrey Sinclair, a newly-wed and international antiques trader, after the heart attack and following illness of his boss Alexander, is left to manage the business and is dragged into the turmoil of post-Glastnost Russia and the Ukraine with an assignment to reclaim a deposed, sinister nobleman Prince Markov's winter palace in St. Petersburg. There he is introduced to the inner workings of several churches, Orthodox, Catholic, and Protestant, as well as the mafia, the former Communist Party's present day workers, KGB agents, the black market, and the hardships of the Russian people.
This type of Book is good for...
Understanding what happened to common people after Mikhail Gorbachev and Perestroika's failing.
I especially liked...
the settings and the in-depth look into Russian society.
I didn't like...
the preaching. The author non-stop drones on and on, preaching his religious philosophy through the mouths of his characters, taking away from what could have been an excellent suspense-mystery story.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
never read another book by T. Davis Bunn.
This Book made me feel...
regretful for choosing it.
The author of this Book...
T. Davis Bunn aka Thomas Locke was born in 1952 in North Carolina. He taught international finance in Switzerland, worked in Africa and the Middle East, and was named managing director of an international business advisory group based in Dusseldorf. He has written fourteen books and has won many awards.
I recommend this Book because...
if you're a religious fanatic, you'll love it.
I don't recommend this Book because...
if you're a connoisseur of good fiction, you'll get turned off as the writer veers off the plotline into religious opinion, ruining the reader's enjoyment of what could have been an excellent plot, and he also puts too much emphasis on religious characters that have little to do with driving the plot along.
