Summary of this Book...
Eithnie is a young painter living in the remote woods of Canada. Recently, the passion and inspiration that once filled her paintings fled, and visions of fairies began to haunt her. This book tells the story of how she regains the life that once filled her paintings and fufills a promise made in a long forgotten childhood.
This type of Book is good for...
This book is a great read anywhere, but is most "effective" when enjoying the outdoors in solitude.
I especially liked...
I loved the use of magic and fairy in a contemporary setting, and the wonderfully articulate and deep view of nature.
I didn't like...
It was rather short, and I thought there could be more detail in places.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
Run away and live in the woods... And read more of De Lint's work.
This Book made me feel...
Sad and happy at the same time. I was happy about the plot conclusion, but felt sad because of all the realizations this book gave me.
The author of this Book...
Charles De Lint writes many books like this, combining mythology with contemporary issues. Nature and the "grime" of society are main focuses in his work.
I recommend this Book because...
It had me absolutely hooked. I felt enlightened after I read it. Plot twists and connections within the work are abundant. It's marvelous.
I don't recommend this Book because...
It ends, eventually.
Further Comments...
De Lint has a witty and different writing style. It feels more like a poem than a story. This book is truely a work of art.
