Summary of this Book...
This is a fable-like story about a young shepherd from an Andulasian land who feels his destiny lies elsewhere and his heart urges him on, helped by magical old men, good advisors and even inanimate objects.
This type of Book is good for...
Sixth graders! The language is too simplistic and no challenge for adults who are reading it.
I especially liked...
The narrative, which was kept simple and not too complicated by adding too many events or characters.
I didn't like...
The simplistic view that the book's protagonist (and therefore the author) takes. According to him, the whole world conspires to help someone to achieve his/her dreams. Too childish and funny to believe in. I mean, has anyone here faced their in-laws? Do they ever conspire to help you?

I also did not like that a shepherd is the hero. It is like comparing him to Moses or Abraham or Jesus, all of whom started out as shepherds and ended up as Prophets.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...

This Book made me feel...
Good, yes, but that feeling evaporated once I was back to earth.
The author of this Book...
Paulo Coelho
I recommend this Book because...
It gives a good message to everyone that they should not be disheartened by setbacks and continue to chase their dream. But please don't wait for the others to "conspire" with you and help you out!
I don't recommend this Book because...
For all the reasons above ...
Further Comments...
I read this book because I had seen others praise it to the skies. The front jacket claimed that millions had already bought and read it. So I said to myself, let's buy it and check it out. It being a thin book, it wasn't too pricy either, so I picked it up immediately!
