11 year old Reuben is the son of the deeply spiritual Jeremiah Land. He is also the only witness to his father's miracles. When his older brother Davy becomes a fugitive from the law, the family takes off in a trailer, starting their own, American version of the Odyssey.

The characterization was so well-done, I am still having a hard time realizing they were only fictional. The scenes were superbly set and the spiritual aspects were thoughtfully presented.
