Boulder psychologist Alan Gregory’s next-door neighbor, Peter, is murdered in an empty theatre in a bizarre way that looks like a serial killing. Friend and detective Sam Purdy asks Alan to consult on the murder, getting inside the mind of the killer, while Peter’s widow, Adrienne, asks him to find out more about her husband than he ever shared with her.


Alan’s wife, Lauren, is an assistant DA dealing with a chronic illness, MS. His neighbor Adrienne is an independent, hyperactive urologist, and his unlikely friend Sam Purdy is a stubborn, down to earth cop.

I've read several of Stephen White's psychological thrillers about Alan Gregory. In Harm’s Way is one of the earlier books and they get better all the time. I like the books and the very real recurring characters enough that I don’t care if I read them out of order.
