Summary of this Book...
Sher used the term 'scanner' in one of her other books to describe a type of person who has many interests and talents, and often has difficulty focusing on a single career path. This book focuses on those people, and teaches them that despite what they may have thought, it's okay not to pick a specility - to "refuse to choose", and do everything that they love.
This type of Book is good for...
ANyone who is, thinks they might be, or knows a scanner.
I especially liked...
How empowered I felt while reading. I never thought it was possible to do any of the things I thinkabout doing, let alone all of them. How could anyone do that? But Sher made be see the potential of what I can do if I know how to approch many projects at once - something no one ever told me before. I really thought I had to pick one thing and stick to it.
I didn't like...
She breaks down scanners into many other sub-groups of scanner - like a 'serial specilaist, or a jack-of-all-trades, etc. I think this is a great fature, as it's much more specific, but after I fighured out what type I was, I quickly lost intrest in reading the remaining chapters describing the other kinds, so I skimmed a bit toward the end.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
Clean my house so I could begin to put what I learned into action!
This Book made me feel...
Like I could do anything - and everything I've wanted to for so long now.
The author of this Book...
I first discovered her on a PBS special, where I was so facinated by what she said that I had to run out and get her book. I wasn't disapointed at all.
I recommend this Book because...
Our society , and most success books I've read stress the importance of focusing on one career path, on one imtrest, and really getting into it if you want to become successfull. This is the first time I've heard the idea that I don't have to give up, or put aside the dosens of other things I love to do something worthwhile.
I don't recommend this Book because...
If you're not a scanner it will likely sound very strange.
