Dreamgirls: The Original Soundtrack is a mixture of really good, kinda good, and average musical performances.

Jennifer Hudson's performance of "And I Am Telling You" is pretty good, if not as perfectly controlled as Jennifer Holliday's version. But "Move" and "One Night Only" are excellent. Also great are "Steppin To The Bad Side" and "Fake Your Way To The Top", led surprisingly by Eddie Murphy. Of course, by now you've heard "Listen", which is probably the only good song Beyonce sings well on the entire album. Pity it was out of character for Deena Jones.

Now on to the not-do-good performances. Surprisingly, the professional singers did not sound well on this album. Jamie Foxx's "When I First Saw You" and Beyonce's "One Night Only" do not measure up to the original performances by Sheryl Lee Ralph and Ben Harney.

Musical movie night.

Eddie Murphy's performances. He sounded a little like James Brown!

The total hack job they did to the disco version of "One Night Only".
