This movie was given to me by Mr. Hooves for Christmas. I got a number of vintage movies and this one was the last one on my list. It is starring Spencer Tracy, Freddie Bartholomew, Lionel Barrymore and Melvyn Douglas.

This is the story of a spoiled 10 year old boy who falls off an ocean liner and is picked up by a Portuguese fisherman. The Fisherman takes him to a fishing boat where he has to stay for 3 months. The boy learns about life and becomes a different, caring, responsible person thanks to the Portuguese Fisherman, Manuel.

Mickey Rooney as Dan. He was a subdued surprise in an understated performance.

is amazing. At first I was a bit put off by Spencer Tracy with that curly hair, speaking with a Portuguese accent ?. It is a bit disconcerting, but this was his first Best Actor Oscar - for this performance. By the end of the film, he had me sobbing for the sunny, Manuel.

if you want to see Spencer Tracy's films, as I do, this one is a must see. I am still not sure about the movie - I will have to see it again to decide, knowing what I know now. I came to love Manuel and Harvey.
