Once again, I'm wondering if I made the right decision when I self-published Red Hoods: First Hunt (the first of a series of novellas) last year. It's what I wanted at the time, but I keep circling back and wondering if I should have queried it first. I was just so eager to do what I wanted because I don't like how my publisher treated my first book. Now I'm stuck with this knee-jerk reaction and can't pitch anything until I finish another project. Most publishers won't give a self-published book the time of day. ![]() Moral of the story: Take your time. Think it through. |
Remember, Stephen King once self-published too. |
I'm quite content self-publishing. I had 2 small press publishers that went out in 2018. Mind you, self-publishing is A LOT. Once the story is done and edited, then you have the cover, ISBN, Copyrights, formatting, and marketing is another beast entirely. Slowly, but surely, I'm getting the back list up, but it's time consuming. If anything, I've learned to be patient. Do my books? They do when I market them. I haven't quit my day job to write exclusively, I wish I could, but my stories are pretty solid and I'm very happy with them. |
I thought I was happy self-publishing, but I keep second, third, and fourth-guessing myself. Maybe I did make the right call. I don't know. |
