Thanks everyone for the anniversary wishes, GPs, MBs and reviews . I think that's the biggest response I've had in the 11 years, ha ha I joined back in 2013 to kick myself into finishing my novel Watching Clouds (as it was called then). Still took me five years to actually do that and publish, but at least I can tick it off. I love being here reading, writing, reviewing; and talking with others about reading, writing, reviewing. You are all very awesome. |

So today... was a bit later leaving work and didn't want to fast walk down the hill to the train in the heat, so decided I'd take the bus. Coolio, the bus arrived and I'd have plenty of time at the other end to walk to the station. The bus turned right instead of left and I went, oh.... F.... brain was clearly asleep to read one bus number as another. Got off at first stop past the turn and end up speed-walking down the hill in the heat to the train. Just time for a toilet stop before joining the busy platform. The train's never in early so that's fine but as I head to the platform I hear my line mentioned in chat to a train worker on another line and I think.... hmmm. But.... hey, still time for train to come in. We're all standing there (200 people?) and there's an announcement: stand by but at least know there's a delay. Not long after that - train is cancelled due to operational error (error??? WTF????) So moral of the story..... just jaunt slowly down the hill, stop in at five shops and even go buy a coffee, cause your best laid plans for getting home early are JUST A JOKE! |
Sounds like public transport in England, I feel your pain! |
Your example of public transportation efficiency is duplicated daily in America's big cities. Public trans is hard, no matter the city. That's why we stupid Americans love our cars so much. The wife and I have four; she has her car, I have my pickup, there is a spare just in case, and one is on loan to my daughter-in-law for my grandsons. |
Joey's So Hot He's Melting - I spent a month in Chicago back in 2018 researching my novel. I was so in love with the city's public transport. So many times cheaper and better than my own city's. Though.... I did walk from North Shore up to Evanston because why not? Definitely didn't walk back! |
