Great piece but I would say there is a vital correction in that they pledge OUR lives and limbs, and not their own! Keep up the good work and keep faith. It is always darkest before the dawn.
I like the way this piece is written. It has a fast pace, gradual revelation of events and is entertaining.
It evoked a strong image of a man pouring mud and blood, and I was a little distracted by people commenting at him dirtying the house, the park, the beach. Perhaps the secondary characters would be more horrified by the spectacle than concerned with mess? Also, I would have liked a little more of an allusion to why or how the transformation to mud creature took place.
Overall, a good, entertaining read.
