I love how you capture the safety of childhood and the reality of the world. The contrast is compelling. For me, the word "child" which you use in the fourth stanza feels more consistent with the poem than baby. It may just be me - but baby connotes an infant and would not be having those experiences. She is leaving childhood behind and that is hard and difficult and I feel you really capture that.
