A poem about looking closer at the people around you.
Look Closer

The nights are so lonely and the days are so sad,
I keep thinking about the love I never had.
The twinkle in my eyes was never meant for show,
They were meant to let you know.
But you never really caught on,
And before I knew it, you were gone.
It's not your fault that you didn't know,
My plans were just moving too damn slow.
You were moving too fast,
And with you, my opportunity passed.
Why didn't I say the things I wanted to say?
How could I let you get away?
Those charmers just swept you off your feet,
Leaving me tailing behind in the backseat.
Oh, how I wish that you would look at me that way,
Saying any of those words I will never hear you say.
You would cry that your lovers were never how they appear,
But your biggest lover was right here, listening to every tear.
Your tears punctured a hole in my soul,
Something which only your affection can make whole.
You should try watching your entire meaning break into two,
Just standing by, watching, nothing that you can do.
I'm so sad that you can't see that my smile is broken,
How much longer will my love go unspoken?
Maybe if I had let my feelings be known,
I wouldn't be all lost and so alone.
If you were here now, what would I do?
I'll give those same eyes and smile for you,
And pray that you will finally see,
But until then, nobody knows it but me.
