poem about the passing of a soldier

They laid him in a plot of ground

That sank into the abyss beneath

And waited for the bugle sound

His final journey a mere six feet

The words they shared of memories past

Of love and laughter, of good all told

Those moments they would make to last

Cherished moments they would dearly hold

His reach is now beyond his wife

He died so that our freedom lives

He left us young, his prime of life

Our happiness, only memory gives.
