A piece about a stroy my uncle told me (viet nam)
Difficult Questions and Answers

I.
His breath was still hot
When the suggestion was said
His body was writhing
Under debris
They’ll keep him alive
To torture
And rape
Because of their hate

II.
Does anyone know he is gone?
Will he get to say goodbye to mom and pop?
Will his fiancé and unborn child survive?
Does his country think him dead?
Does the reason he’s here care?
Does the President know he is the reason and care?
How long will they keep him alive?
“How can I beg for my life; I don’t even know their language?”

III.
Fearing for his life, he wants to escape
His limbs are broken, from the crush of tons
Do they know he’s here yet, will they come find him?
He trys to be brave, pretends he doesn’t cry at night
How many days has it been, is his family ok?
When will they bomb this place, and find him inside
Broken and mangled, just like a prisoner of war
He can hear the shouts, had they found him at last?

IV.
Safe among family
The president visits, how dare he?
He was the reason I was gone for so long
They told me about you
And I believe it
They finally got through, why they did this
And I am the messenger
Listen to my words
