Carnival Heart

It pulses like life itself; the sights, the smells, the colors,
The swaying, swirling music, the bright twinkling lights,
The lost souls with lost teeth and dreams
That run this spectacle of supposed pleasure

Rigged games
Fatty foods
Rides not worth the money
Children throwing up

I’m Too cowardly to ride the good rides,
I’m Too scared for my children to ride any of them!
All that aside, I get a thrill
Each time the carnival comes to town.

And we shell out the money, better spent on other things,
So they won’t be disappointed;
Knowing somehow we might disappoint ourselves
For ignoring the beat of the Carnival Heart.
