Compare book to a movie

This book 'Perks of being a Wallflower' reminds me of the movie 'Odd Girl Out' because the girl was popular and then she started liking this boy but no one liked her liking him because this other girl did. The girls started picking on her and she went through cutting her hair to taking pills, and going through a tough time. It seemed like she was being controlled by other people and finally she made new friends and said to the other girls to deal with it. I think the movie and the book are alike on how they go through tough times and can probably relate to one another.
