It may surprise some to know that this is about heartbreak and leaving. How boring.
There are wild things in my back yard:
A heartsick soldier with a deck of cards,
A little girl who thinks she has rabies,
And a truckload of half-dead babies.
There’s the shadow of a semi-crazed Oriental Seer
Who lives off old love, dead flowers and beer.
Even an overgrown middle-aged perverted boy-scout
- But I can't bring myself to kick him out
DON’T FEED THE ANIMAL
Because the animal, dear, is a cannibal
His breath is like fire and his hunger abysmal.
He feeds at night on human flesh
(he gets it the very day so he’s sure it’s fresh).
The animal sits among the satin embers,
Thinking thoughts only he remembers.
His last disciples all live on the moon,
Eating junk food and watching cartoons.
