Questions I have for my father
Was it painful?
Was it a pressure in your chest?
Did you sleep right thorough it?
Did you go peacefully into rest?

Did it wake you?
Did you scream out?
Did you cry or were silent?
What did you think about?

Did you miss us?
Were you sorry?
Did you pray to God?
Did you think of me?

I miss you every day
I wish that you were here
When I remember you
I only shed one tear

I know that you are happy
I know that you’re at peace
I know that I am selfish
To want my pain to cease

Can you see me where you are?
Do you look upon me proudly?
I wish that I could hear you
But the world’s noise roars too loudly

I have so many questions
I have so many fears
I thought that we would have more
than twenty rocky years

I know that I will see you
I’ll hug and kiss your face
When my merciful Lord and Savior
Brings me into his grace

But until that joyful day arrives
Look down on me with pride
As I will try to make you proud
Until I’m by your side

If you can answer my questions
I’ll try stop and hear
I know that I am closer to you
With each and every passing year

I miss you
I love you
Did you know that then?
Do you hear it now?
