Inspired by story I heard about 9/11, about a lady who never reconnected her phone
She stands against the stair.
Her face,
behind unkempt hair.
A waning statue static, in her place.

Her mind lost in a lifeless length
of wire, waiting.
For a whisper or a lie.
Promises that should not die.
But stood so long, breath abating.
A tattered tower of fading strength.

But the line ends far from the wall.
Torn long ago....
two years this fall.
One simple call never ringing.
Taken away by Angels singing.
But still a line never finding.
Broken connection never binding.
Purposely so....

She can't give away the title,
last caller....
