To an old friend who passed on
The Bell Does Not Toll For Me

The bell, you hear it, it tolls for thee,
I hear it ringing, echoing, calling to me,
It calls to you, pulling you away from me,
Each somber tone sets your spirit free

Stay my brother, don't go, follow me,
Just dont leave, don't take flight and flee,
Still the bell, still I hear it, it is you I see,
I hope life is eternal like the whispering tree,

Once upon a time we were boys rejoicing in glee,
The song of youth is sung with such a quiet melody,
The world was silent then, we were far from a terrible sea,
But sadly we grew to men, nature's cruelest decree,

We continued and grew older to an ancient degree,
Your time came late in Autumm, under a golden tree,
When your wife called, a part of me perished in meloncholy,
Dressed up in all black, I carved into an oak this elegy,

The bell returns now, comes back to me,
One final song, one last symphony,
In your name it rings, in my heart forever it rings for thee,
Oh Lord high on vaulted sky, deliver him safely, that is my plea.
