I have rewritten this poem for years and can't get it right. Help!
Now I lay me down to die
A sweet seducing lullaby
Echoes softly in my ear
The song I waited long to hear

Your words, they were the expert key
That caught and gently lifted me
To some heaven, you were there
Waiting for me with the spell of your stare
I took you in my blood and heart
And danced around your poisoned dart
That you explained protected me
Might some man, jealous, come for me?
And now, years later, now I know
You were building a prison so I could not go
You only wanted a beautiful slave
So you could show everyone the man that you crave
To be, but you're nothing but what I hate
So I fashioned a weapon from my undeserved fate
Now I need only to play my role,
I may touch your body but never your soul
You'll never know if I even cried
When I give to you my suicide

I pray for death my soul to keep
For death is free and peaceful sleep
But if I wake, if I fail to die
I'll wait for you with a lullaby...
