The fleeting beauty of nature and stillness
In the silence that precedes dawn
As the dew falls to find the lawn

Before such creatures as sheep and birds
Begin to emerge in flocks and herds

After late night lovers leave the street
And buildings no longer echo with pounding feet

Before the morning wakes to greet the day
But after dark has gone its separate way

In the moments that are leaving night
Just as the sky is streaked with light

This is the time of the oldest thought
Of what to the world Mother Nature brought

Here is the moment when time stands still
The earth sucks in a breath, its lungs to fill

With the cleanest air and purest rain
The world is proud; it’s chance to be vain.

Then time ticks back to the seconds of clocks
And on its axis, the world rocks

Then tips around back into a spin
And another day is known to begin.
