A poem about the the misconceived nature of war.
War is Sad

War’s song has been sung since the beginning of time

It has been praised in all the tongues

That men use in their many lands

It has been set in stone

And has been written down

But it has never once been understood

War’s tale has been told since the beginning of time

It has been told to young children

Who dreamt dreams of being warriors

Told with all its heroes

And with all its villains

It has been gloriously immortalized

But the truth of War has never been sung

The songs of men who for their land

Were cut down by merciless steel

They breathed their final breaths

And bled away their life

While the arrows and the shells scorched the sky

And the truth of War has never been told

The tales of men who left their home

To fight for what they knew was right

They left all that they owned

And left all they that loved

So that today we could love and own freedom

There are countless songs that have been written

And countless tales that have been told

Speaking of War like a mere game

But they will never know

And they will never see

The ghastly, sad sacrifice that War is
