Thanking my parents for all they've done, and wondering how they managed to do it.
There was a brick wall here, and the masonry was so indestructible
We stood on opposite sides, oblivious of our eyes meeting the ground
I felt for the hallow spot, after awhile I found it
I tugged and it moved, but we were still separated

I felt the tremors, I was there I felt it shake
I hung around not much longer
I needed a break, from you, from life

The pen with which I wrote this letter, it had a feather
I dipped it in the jar of ink, but
It melted into the thoughts I’d rather think
I looked inside; I found a world that looked so much better, but
Then I blinked, and the jar was just ink again
I blinked again; my thoughts were drawn in ink again
Oh mother, oh father, why do I bother?
Oh mother, oh father, why did you bother?

I stepped down from the sidewalk, and tripped over a pebble
We exchanged a look, oblivious of how my face met the ground
I felt around for the strength, I got back to my feet
I’d wished the ground was level, but I looked and you were across the street

I saw your lips tremble, I was there I saw you break
I traversed through broken traffic lights
You needed a break, from this, from life

The pen with which I wrote this letter, it had a feather
I dipped it in the jar of ink, but
It melted into the thoughts I’d rather think
I looked inside; I found a world that looked so much better, but
Then I blinked, and the jar was just ink again
I blinked again; my thoughts were drawn in ink again
Oh mother, oh father, why do I bother?
Oh mother, oh father, why did you bother?
