As a History lover I wrote this as I have found the Civil war to be the most sad.
As the breeze blows gently against a wind chime,

My mind drifts off back into time.

I read about a battle and how it took place,

I see a look of fear on a soldiers face.

This was a battle that was like no other.

The blue and the gray, brother against brother.

As the shots rang loudly and they'd start to fall,

Voices of the wounded in the distance would call.

In the deep of the night they'd hear whispers of the dead,

And wait for the next day in which they would dread.

The bullets were flying all around.

As one by one they'd hit the ground.

They'd carry their flag with dignity and pride,

But, the real battle was going on inside.

They did not want to be there, they did not want to fight.

For the depths of this battle would reach new height.

Day in and day out, battle sounds they'd hear.

And watch their backs for their lives they would fear.

Now, History books speak of the facts about the brave,

But,how many secrets were buried with"The Soldier in the Grave."
