encountering Jesus in church
“Wash away,”sang the man.
Wash away what exactly?
Wash away rings in my ears.
I sit in the pew and wonder.

“Wash away,” sang the man.
Am I forgiven?
Does Jesus love me?
Wash away what exactly?

Tears flow as I bend my head.
“I give you a new heart,” Jesus said.
“Free of stain, sin and guilt.
Wash away is it what I did.”
