A poem: A name can potentially influence a child's development...
"Ingenuous"

My name is Ingenuous,
A “gift” from my Mother,
who wanted her son
to be honest with others.

Honest and open,
straightforward and frank;
these things I am not,
for which she is to thank.

Each year of my schoolin’,
all eight of ‘em spent,
the Schoolmarm would lecture
on what my name meant.

As I sat in my desk
sadly shakin’ my head,
my classmates would giggle.
My face turned bright red.

Out on the playground
I taught them a lesson.
Made sure that they knew just
with whom they were messin’.

When through with the boys,
I chased all the girls.
I yanked on their pigtails
and pulled on their curls.

By the age of fourteen,
my teacher cried, “Gracious!
I believe your dear mother
should have named you Salacious!”
