everything burns out....
Ashes to Ashes and Dust to Dust,
The line death tells to us all.

The human life is a cigarette,
Long and full of something,
Addictive and threatening,
Which fire can disintegrate.

The pulling and exhaling,
How others suck it all out,
The passion of being alive,
Then breathe out the waste.

The fire extinguishes slowly,
Never in a hurry to destroy,
The smoke surrounding us,
Drowning out the world.

They pretend it’s  some magic,
It was there and now it’s not,
In truth it’s always still there,
The ashes and dust in the air.

We are all slick cigarettes,
Turning into almost nothing,
Wasting ourselves into life,
Until it comes, the day we die.

Ashes to Ashes and Dust to Dust,
The last thing your ears hear.
