Inspired by George Ella Lyon's poem, "Where I'm From".
I’m from frosty early mornings,
From soggy grass between my pig-like toes,
Sending chills up my spine.
I’m from high adventure,
From seeking make-believe monsters in every honeysuckle bush
just to drink in the scent from the soft, snow-white petals.
I’m from constant determination and smiles of encouragement
Which continue to propel me forward into a vague future.

I’m from sinister Halloween nights,
From pursuing frightened children down the streets,
Wishing that the lifeless wings on my back would carry me away.
I’m from a mirror that reflects my melting eyes from brown to vomit green.
From the force field that prevents what only my heart can see.
I’m from a wide stage where nurtured music is finally released,
From thundering applause, an ocean of blurred skin.
I’m from another stage,
Where the performance is never-ending, the approval silent.
I’m from the hushed music playing perpetually in the back of my mind.

I am from a dream,
From weaving words into the quilt that has given me warmth for so many years.
