Written the day my daughter turned 10
A Woman

Today I have seen what it is that the world
has in store for me and I see that it is
not all that I thought that it would be.

Today I see that I am a mother who will nurture,
a friend that will listen and a woman who will grow.
Today I see that the world is all that I am
and all that the world is, is me.

I see myself in that child down the street.
I see my own child in the old lady sitting on the porch.
Today I am everything and nothing at all.

Today I am whatever the world says that I am.
A child, a teenager, a woman, a wife,
a mother, a grandmother, a lover of life
