Kevin attempts to explain his feeling to Karen. Will he make it through this time?
What’s gone on before: Karen Faygo is thought by others in her town to be a stuck up rich girl. But as usual, that’s not true. She is insecure, shy, intellingent and extremely caring. She actually didn’t mind the rumors. They kept everyone away. It was a lot easier to hide her secret from the whole school, than her only two friends: Judd and Jen. That is until she is assigned to work a school project with Kevin Timberly. Kevin is the handsome star quarterback. Everyone loves Kevin. Karen and Kevin are like oil and water however, at least at first. It doesn’t take Kevin long, once he looks past the rumors and the wall that Karen puts up, to become intrigued by her. Through his persistence they became reluctant friends. Soon after he learns the truth of her father abuse. Karen begins to open up and lean on Kevin. He realizes how amazing she is, and falls hard for her. Karen however doesn’t have the confidence to believe he cares for her. Will he succeed?

“Come on Karen, admit it”, Kevin almost pleaded. "We have had some really amazing times together.”

Karen couldn’t help but mentally shake her head. Only Kevin could manage to be so vulnerable, yet cocky. He was adorable at times. “Well yes, but other times are awful!”

“I know, I know. Karen you drive me absolutely crazy . I mean we fight the majority of the time we're together. And sometimes your behavior makes me just want to storm off and get as far away from you as I can.”

Despite the fact that this is what she had been trying to tell him, Karen was still hurt. She cared for Kevin a great deal. And part of her was overjoyed that he was pursuing her. “See,we would never work," she said slightly resignedly.

“But," Kevin said not willing to give up, "when I’m not with you I wonder where you are, and what you are doing. I start thinking about when I can see you again. After a fight, I go home, and all I am able to think about is how can we can make up. And yes, I admit, most of the time that involves food. Or sometimes," he said with his signature smug grin, "I think up various ways to get on your nerves simply because it's so funny.” Karen could tell by his voice and his face that he was getting excited. The more he talked, the faster he spoke. “ I mean, you know how couples say the peace after an argument is the best, well I don’t agree. Fighting, arguing with you is as thrilling as the feeling of peace after making up! I don’t know how to explain it, but there is just something about you that makes me want to ruffle your feathers! Karen you are a puzzle, an enigma. You make life interesting. I mean I know we have had really, really bad fights. So bad I wondered if I would ever see you again, but we have made it through.”

By this time Kevin had calmed down considerably. But that still didn’t change the passion in his eyes. Karen could see it. He meant every single word. You and I just can’t imagine how special that made her feel. “Karen, I figure if we can make it through those arguments, and rather enjoy others, well then we should be able to make it.”

Throughout this whole speech, Karen couldn’t help but find herself laughing and smiling. She knew exactly how Kevin felt because she felt the same way. She too enjoyed all their time together. If you or I came across Kevin and Karen, we might think that they seriously didn’t like each other. That’s the opposite of the truth though. They really cared deeply about each other. Only two people who have a strong, true bond can handle bickering with each other constantly, but still want to spend every waking hour with each other.

Karen might not have truly realized the depth of their feelings, but she did know that they had found something special. The day she had been assigned to work with Kevin was one of the best days of her life. Because of Kevin, her life became more worth living. In fact, there had been days when thoughts of him where the only thing that keep her going. This knowledge confused her because she couldn’t comprehend how the person who frustrated her beyond all belief was the one person she trusted and admired above all.

She really didn’t get what was happening, but she loved it. There was a huge part of her that would love nothing more than to date Kevin, but another part knew that she shouldn’t. He deserved so much more than she was able to give. She knew he deserved a girlfriend that he could hang out and have a good time with, without her worrying about her father or sisters. A girlfriend who he could hold, hug, and kiss without her tensing up because even though she knew that Kevin would never ever hurt her, she couldn’t get over the actions of her dad. Not to mention, a girlfriend who was way prettier. She still wasn’t sure what he saw in her, but she knew he saw something and that was enough for her. That in itself meant so much to her, and made her extremely happy. Now she wanted him to be as happy as he made her. And she knew that in long run he would not be happy with her. He deserved a girlfriend with an actual future.
