a poem of love, phased by misdirection but never forgotten
I took a wrong turn, and it still led back to you
I could take one hundred more and expect the same
through consequence and happenstance, you're my way back home
and i've traveled dozens of highways
meandering through each city's streets
with your taste lingering upon my lips, I know it so
these other lights could never blind what I see in you

may my voice branch out across the land
tracing the states and crawling past their borders
may it find you and sing the most elegant of songs
sweet like the taste of sugar
sinking into your soul
may it ease your tiring troubles, let it do so
resting towards a loving slumber

may my arms reach out past all others
curling around unwanted shoulders
may they find you and wrap themselves around you tightly
keeping you safe and warm
my bones burn fire for you
may they rest your quickly beating heart, let them soothe
sustaining each ever-lasting touch of love

I took a wrong turn, and still it led back to you
there's only one home, one destination for my soul
I long from a distance, and at times my heart aches
but how I love her, I know it so
these other lights could never blind what I see in you
