Carefree life takes a turn for a young woman and leads down another path.
Parked Cars

I remember the days,
we were both wrinkle-free,
and we were everything,
youth was supposed to be.

A picnic under the trees,
lying beneath the stars,
Dad's beach house stolen keys,
hide-n-seek in parked cars.

On fun we were hell-bent,
and always holding hands,
no thoughts of bills or rent,
or wearing wedding bands.

The only things that mattered,
were music,food,and sex,
before the world was shattered,
by our pre-spent paychecks.

Leaving our fate to chance,
life was un-complicated,
swimming in our ignorance,
and a future that was ill-fated.

You wanna play?
You gotta pay.
Sure enough, it was true,
How did I wind up this way?
My stomach quickly grew.

Married in a blinding hurry,
in the mayor's office room,
The lazy days now blurry,
parenthood now did loom.

We poured our hearts and souls,
into molds we thought correct,
ignoring the gaping holes,
in our relationship unchecked.

I don't regret all my choices,
life has not been all unkind,
but in my heart are many voices,
calling with visions left behind.

Countless days and dreams,
fading and falling like the stars,
years drifting down swift streams,
away from picnics and parked cars.
