Describing how I feel about my best friend and his new girlfriend
A sigh – what do I say? What are my feelings now?
Joy, fear, smiles, sorrow – yet which one shows the truth?
They come so fast, never last,
But this one… I not yet know.

Always there, brother in arms, you know I’ve got your back.
But slowly, smoothly, you start to drift,
Leaving me behind.
A glance back from time to time, but no longer there;
You think you know everything, but you cannot spot me.

Lilting laughter, a cloud of light – why do I look for rain?
Love works in funny ways, of that there is no doubt,
For how can one criticise improvement of a life?
Sometimes happiness results in misery, but the end is not yet nigh

A pause… a breath…. Push back the hair.
I knew that boy, knew him well, but what of he and I?
I watch afar, carefully, closely, wondering always why
It must be this way.

Becoming a man in front of my eyes, it’s not always easy
To let go. But who am I to say otherwise? It must be done.
Carry on soldier, lance at the ready, prepare for the time at hand,
‘Til the end we will not fall, and we will see this through,
But our battles are on separate plains – Away! Away with you!
